Marcello - Sonata VI, Transcribed for Double Bass (Urtext)

$12.00

Benedetto Marcello - Cello Sonata No.6, Transcribed for Double Bass, Urtext Edition. Full score (6 pages) and solo parts (9 pages) in orchestra and solo tuning. Available as a PDF download.

The Marcello sonatas have been some of the most popular transcriptions for double bassists and are now available in an Urtext edition made from the earliest editions of these works. While the original manuscript of these sonatas does not seem to have survived, the two publications made in Amsterdam (Gerhard Fredrik Witvogel) and London (John Walsh) have been used to preserve the original bowing and articulation markings.

Each sonata in this set contains a full score with the continuo part and three solo parts for the double bass:

  1. A solo part to be played an octave lower than the cello

  2. A solo part to be played at cello pitch in orchestra tuning

  3. A solo part to be played at cello pitch in solo tuning

Some players will find that certain sonatas work better in different tunings, but all work very well played one octave lower than the cello.
