J.S. Bach - Prelude to Suite V, Transcribed by Delmas-Bigot

$5.00

J.S. Bach - Prelude to Cello Suite No.5, transcribed by Alphonse-Joseph Delmas-Boussagol (1891-1958) with piano accompaniment composed by Eugène Bigot (1888-1965). Solo part (2 pages) and piano part (5 pages), available as a PDF download.

After Édouard Nanny arranged movements from 5 out of the 6 cello suites by J.S. Bach for double bass, Alphonse-Joseph Delmas-Boussagol (1891-1958) arranged the opening of the prelude to the 5th suite. This installment appeared originally as No. 43 of the “Les Classiques de la Contrebasse” series. Following Nanny’s plan of having a piano accompaniment for the suites, a piano part was composed by Eugène Bigot (1888-1965), but in a very different style from those of Paul Vidal, who composed Nanny’s piano parts.

Players will notice that this is not the entire first movement of the suite and ends only before the fast section begins. This arrangement by Delmas can be thought of as more of a reimagining of Bach in a different style. This type of arrangement is interesting to consider the history of performances of Bach on the double bass and together with Nanny’s arrangements, makes movements from each suite available to players with piano accompaniments.
