J.S. Bach - Gigue from Violin Partita No.2, Transcribed by Delmas
J.S. Bach - Gigue from Violin Partita No.2, transcribed by Alphonse-Joseph Delmas-Boussagol (1891-1958) for double bass with piano accompaniment. Solo part (4 pages) and piano part (13 pages), available as a PDF download.
In the style of Édouard Nanny before him, Alphonse-Joseph Delmas-Boussagol (1891-1958) transcribed the Gigue from J.S. Bach’s Violin Partita No.2 for double bass, but with piano accompanying the double bass. Delmas’s source material was likely an early printed edition of the Bach sonatas and partitas, as the title of this transcription refers to the gigue as being from the “4th Sonata”. Unlike Delmas’s transcription of the prelude from the 5th suite, this piano part appears to be composed by Delmas. Originally appearing as part of the “Les Classiques de la Contrebasse” series as No. 40, this transcription is a fascinating look into historical transcriptions of Bach for the double bass.
