César Franck’s Violin Sonata is available for the first time in an Urtext transcription made for double bass from the Henle edition, which preserves the original markings from the manuscript. A number of fine recordings have been made on the double bass of the Franck sonata and it is my hope this edition is a quality of life upgrade for bassists who are preparing to perform it in the future and want their own clean part that does not have editorial contributions.
Included with the music in both tunings is an alternate version that preserves all of the original octaves from the violin part. The changes to the octave that are made in the first version will be needed by most players because of the upper range of notes, but by including a second copy it’s possible to study what changes have been made.
