Dittersdorf - Duet for Viola and Double Bass (Urtext), Score and Parts
Dittersdorf - Duet for Viola and Double Bass. Urtext edition (Schwerin version), full score with parts for viola and double bass.
Dittersdorf’s Duet for viola and double bass is available in an Urtext edition, prepared form the manuscript in Schwerin (Mus 1689). Both a score and parts are included in the download.
The Schwerin manuscript was copied by “Schumtzer”, who signed his name at the end of the music as the copyist. Its location in Schwerin most likely means that Sperger performed the piece from this copy. A second manuscript of this piece exists outside of Schwerin, which is located in Vienna. While there are small differences between the two manuscripts, neither seems to point to a distinct “final version” of the piece.
To my knowledge, there has only been one published edition of this piece by Yorke in 1971. While the edition is very good and appears to use the Schwerin manuscript as well, there are some small additions from the editor. This edition provides a clean Urtext copy made straight from the manuscript.
