Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf - Double Bass Concerto No.1 (Urtext Edition). Solo double bass part (10 pages), available as a pdf download.

Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf’s Double Bass Concerto No.1 is now available in its first Urtext edition. This concerto has been edited from the manuscript, which resides in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schwerin (Mus 1687), which was copied by Johannes Matthias Sperger and contains the cadenzas that he wrote. The full score comes with individual parts for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 horns, violin I, violin II, viola, and basso, along with the solo double bass part. While the original key of this concerto is in E-flat major, written for the double bass to be played in Viennese tuning up a half step, this edition is available in six different configurations and three different keys:

Full Score and Parts in D major
Full Score and Parts in E-flat major
Full Score and Parts in E major
Arranged for Double Bass and String Quartet in D major
Arranged for Double Bass and String Quartet in E-flat major
Arranged for Double Bass and String Quartet in E major

The reason for these different keys is that the original solo bass part is notated in D major and could be played in a modern tuning of 4ths without scordatura (or Viennese tuning in D major). With solo tuning up a whole step, this would put the solo bass in E major. These transpositions give the most flexibility to the performer, in case they need their instrument to be tuned a certain way. The arrangement for string quartet instead of full orchestra also gives the double bassist the possibility of performing this concerto in a more intimate setting such as a recital.

Please note that the original natural horn parts have been preserved in this edition. If modern transpositions are needed, please contact me to be supplied with horn parts in a different key.
